Bioclimatic Pergola on an Open Terrace
Example application: a bioclimatic pergola whose rotating louvres control sunlight and ventilation.

Shading Systems
A pergola with rotating aluminium louvres that control light and ventilation, draining rainwater through an integrated system.
The Scissor-Arm Bioclimatic Pergola goes beyond standard bioclimatic systems: its roof panels can both rotate about their own axis and fold fully back thanks to a dedicated scissor mechanism. Built on an aluminium supporting frame, the system lets you control sunlight and ventilation in fine, precise angles, and opens the roof completely at the touch of a button to give an uninterrupted view of the sky. In the closed position it provides flawless waterproofing, and all measuring, CNC production and installation for the system are carried out with Metalux Aluminium expertise.
It is preferred on luxury villa terraces, in premium restaurant and hotel outdoor areas, in winter gardens, and in prestigious four-season outdoor living projects where all barriers between the space and the sky are to be removed.
- Dual movement: The blades both rotate about their own axis to provide shading and ventilation, and fold fully back to give an open-air feel.
- Flawless synchronisation: Advanced scissor arms interlock all the blades so they move smoothly, quietly and in perfect alignment.
- Full protection and concealed drainage: When closed, the blades form a complete shield against rain and snow; water is drained through integrated concealed gutters and the supporting posts.
- Easy cleaning: Because the blades can fold back, cleaning the top of the system and the panels is much more practical than with standard pergolas.
- Integrated design: With guillotine glass, sliding systems and integrated LED lighting, it can be turned into a fully enclosed living space.
The large number of moving joints in scissor systems makes periodic maintenance of the motor and moving parts critical to the system's service life. The wall thickness of the supporting profiles, and the posts and drainage channels, must be sized by engineering calculations according to the wind load (especially when open) and rainfall load of the project location. The number of panels and the stacking allowance are optimised specifically for each Metalux Aluminium project according to the net dimensions of the area.
