Composite Facade Cladding: What It Is and Its Benefits
Composite facade cladding sandwiches a core layer between two thin metal sheets to create a lightweight cladding system. Here is how it works and why it is chosen.

Facade Systems
A facade system in which glass is bonded to the supporting frame with structural silicone, giving an uninterrupted glass appearance.
A structural silicone glazing facade is a curtain wall solution in which the glass panels are fixed to the supporting aluminium facade system by structural silicone bonding, with no aluminium cap visible from outside. Seen from outside, mainly the glass surface and thin joint lines are visible, giving a modern, uninterrupted facade appearance. The system is applied on an aluminium supporting structure made up of mullion and transom profiles.
Where is it used?
It is preferred for business centres, office buildings, shop and showroom facades, hotels, commercial buildings, and modern architectural projects that call for large glass surfaces.
Advantages
- Because no cap profile is visible from outside, it gives an uninterrupted, modern glass facade appearance.
- Allows large glass surfaces to be used.
- High-performance facade solutions can be created with thermally insulated profiles and double glazing combinations.
- Controlled drainage of rainwater can be provided by a concealed drainage system.
- Depending on the project, concealed opening sashes or outward-opening window solutions can be integrated into the system.
Points to consider
Glass dimensions, supporting profile sections and connections must be determined by engineering calculation according to facade height, openings and wind loads. The silicone used is not an ordinary sealant but structural silicone suitable for structural glazing applications. Compatibility of the glass, coating, gaskets and silicone should be checked for each project, and bonding and curing must be carried out in line with the manufacturer's technical requirements.
